Each year, a master folk artist is paired with an apprentice from his or her community to pass down a specific folk tradition. The program culminates with a performance or showcase at the Florida Folk Festival.

Each year, the Florida Folklife Program chooses a specific area or theme for research to be presented at the Florida Folklife Festival and adapted to educational, exhibit, or other public use purposes.
